Facebook Supports Paid Online Events

Facebook is launching a new paid events option in order to provide another way for businesses to generate direct income amid the COVID-19 crisis. With many businesses and creators bringing their events and services online to connect with existing customers and reach new ones, Facebook now is combining marketing, payment with live video, and paid online events to meet the end-to-end needs of businesses. For those Pages that meet their partner monetization policies, they can now host events on Facebook Live to reach broad audiences and charge directly on Facebook for access to their online events. At launch, Facebook is also not taking a cut of any fees paid—though your attendees will still need to pay a 30% cut to the App Store if they sign up on iOS. Additionally, they are testing paid events with Messenger Rooms for more personal and interactive gatherings.

Updates for Grabs

Finally, there are several channel updates to keep on your radar.

  • Facebook rolled out Facebook Shop Tab, a new place to discover businesses and shop for products in the Facebook app. For all U.S. businesses, Checkout on Instagram was added as well.
  • Twitter is replacing "tweets and comments" with the new "Quotes" count, so remember that when reviewing your analytics this month.
  • Instagram launched suggested posts at the end of the following feed to all users. This increases the likelihood of showcasing product posts based on people's past searches.
  • Instagram has launched new QR codes for its profiles, which will provide another quick scan option to help users connect with people and businesses through the app.
  • Facebook is streamlining their targeting and will remove over 1,000 ad-targeting options because they're either not used very often or they replicate other audience targeting categories.
  • Instagram launched Reels, a new way to create and discover short, entertaining videos on Instagram. Record, edit, and share 15-second multi-clip videos with audio, effects, and new creative tools.
